Georg Philipp Telemann was one of the most prolific major composers of all time: producing more than 3,000 compositions. Telemann was very highly regarded by colleagues and critics alike cited his works as models, and major composers such as J.S. Bach and Handel bought and studied his published works. Marin Marais was a prolific French composer who served the royal court at Versailles. He was celebrated as a virtuoso of the Viola da Gamba (an antecedent of the cello).
These sensuous compositions are masterfully performed by a quartet led by Professor Mark Janello on harpsichord. Dr. Janello serves on the Music Theory faculty at The Johns Hopkins University Peabody Conservatory. He also performs with the Baltimore Symphony, Bach Sinfonia, and the Georgetown University Chamber Singers. He is joined by Ms. Gracie Carnie of the McGill University Chamber Orchestra on a period 17th century Baroque violin, Mr. Jacob Jahiel of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on Viola da Gamba and Ms. Sarah Shoja of the Peabody Renaissance Ensemble and Washington Bach Consort on Baroque Recorder.
During intermission, enjoy an exquisite dinner of chicken cordon bleu served with haricot vert and a Dijon creme sauce and parsley potatoes, paired with imported wines. Dessert will be assorted French patisserie and with coffee and tea. A vegetarian entrée is available upon request.
