Shiloh Manor Farm Information and Services

Jefferson wrote in 1785 in a letter to John Jay that

“Cultivators of the earth are the most valuable citizens. They are the most vigorous, the most independent, the most virtuous, & they are tied to their country & wedded to its liberty & interests by the most lasting bonds.”

Small farmers today are a vanishing breed.  At the federal level farm policy and programs seem disproportionately created and managed for the benefit of mega-agribusinesses who appear much more interested in profits than living harmoniously off the earth.   Closer to home,  we have politicians in Loudoun County who talk about the rural economy but as our county budget explodes, now measured in the billions of dollars, they are much more interested in milking tax dollars than Holsteins and it shows in their tax and spend policies and priorities.

We are what we eat, and we eat a concoction of insecticides, preservatives, dyes, other chemical additives, hormones, antibiotics, genetically modified plants and animals it is no wonder that the U.S. has the seventh highest cancer rate in the world with about 300 of every 100,000 Americans develop cancer each year.  It is interesting that less developed countries in the world with poor health are infrastructure, such as Albania, Montenegro and Honduras have cancer rates nearly half that of the US and Western Europe.   While there are many dimensions behind cancer statistics, it probably isn’t coincidental that in countries where food –real food – is sustainably produced closer to the consumer that cancer rates are lower.

We believe that land farmed for over 250 years yearns to be work and to bare its fruit so as much as is possible we are committed to maintaining an agrarian lifestyle.  At Shiloh that takes several different forms.

We provide excellent boarding for horses.

We produce top quality Jacob Sheep fiber.

We grow organic, bananas and herbs, heirloom produce in our greenhouses, and wholesome, fresh chicken eggs.
